What is Marketing?

Let’s slow down and go back to basics.

So basically, Marketing is like a flirtatious dance between a business and its customers. It's all about wooing them with your charm, wit, and irresistible products. But if you're new to the game, marketing can seem like a confusing mess of buzzwords and jargon. Fear not, my friend! In this blog post, we're going to break down the basics of marketing in a way that even your grandma can understand (my grandparents do in fact even have Instagram, which is pretty impressive if you ask me).

First things first: What is marketing? At its core, marketing is all about promoting your product or service to potential customers. It involves everything from creating a killer brand identity to developing eye-catching ads, building relationships with customers, and measuring your success.

To start, you need to know who you're trying to reach. Your target audience is the group of people most likely to be interested in your product or service, the people that will buy from you ideally, not that your mum can’t follow you as well. So apart from mum, think about their age, gender, interests, and where they spend their time online. Once you've identified your target audience, it's time to create a brand identity that speaks to them. This includes your business name, logo, and visual style.

Next up: advertising. Advertising is like the megaphone of marketing. It's how you get the word out about your product or service (You pay to play bigger sometimes). You can advertise through a variety of channels, think social media, email marketing, search engine optimization (Google Profile anyone?), and even good old-fashioned billboards and radio (but these can cost $$$$). Whatever method you choose, make sure your ads are visually appealing (will it capture your audience attention), informative (What do they get from it), it’s all about your customer.

Paid ads not in the budget? Don’t worry! Advertising alone won't cut it anyway. You need to build relationships with your customers. This means being present on social media, responding to customer inquiries promptly, and showing your appreciation for their business. Building a loyal customer base takes time and effort, but it's worth it in the long run.

Finally, measuring your success is essential in marketing. How else will you know if your marketing efforts are paying off? You can track metrics like website traffic, conversion rates, and social media engagement to get a sense of how well your marketing strategy is working. Use this data to adjust your strategy and make improvements. This means always learning and adapting!

So there you have it, folks.

Remember to know your audience, create a killer brand identity, advertise wisely, build relationships, and track your success. With these basics under your belt, you'll be a marketing pro in no time.

Most importantly, just be you! Stay true to your brands mission. Your people will come.
